Zullo & Holland has linked up with Maggie’s Nottingham to host a May Ball at the gorgeous Colwick Hall to raise funds for charity’s new centre, opened at the end of last year. More than 300 people will attend the ball and gala dinner on 17 May, where there will be eight-piece band, an auction and raffle, all in aid of Maggie’s. Guest speaker will be Judy Naake, founder of St Tropez, with local crooner Campbell Bass compering.
The centre, designed by Pier Gough CBE with interior by Sir Paul Smith, serves a population of four million people in the East Midlands Cancer Network area, where there are more than 20,000 cases of cancer each year alone. Yet Maggie’s is a self-funded charity, and it relies entirely on donations and fundraising by individuals and companies, such as Zullo & Holland.
It’s not the first time the team at Z&H has stepped up to support the charity. Even before it opened last year, the salon held a charity day providing haircuts, which can cost up to £70, for donations only. It aims for its charity day and its May Ball to become a regular fixture on its calendar.
“We are committed to the centre over the long term and we thought a May Ball was a great opportunity to help raise the profile of the charity and much-needed funds to help it continue its work,” said Romano Zullo, owner of the well-established city centre salon. “We are hoping everyone will be keen to support the centre, including local businesses, and will join us. With a ball, we can raise money and have a wonderful time. We want to celebrate that Nottingham has this amazing resource available to everyone affected by cancer, including friends and families.”
The whole team is behind the project, while Colwick Hall and band Acoustic Angels are lowering their charges to help boost the final pot for Maggie’s. Zullo is hoping local businesses will buy tables and offer up auction and raffle prizes. One lucky bidder will win a makeover and dinner with Zullo & Holland’s creative director, Angelo Vallillo, who early this week was named Salon Stylist of the Year by top glossy Hair Magazine.
Mandy McMahan, centre head of Maggie’s Nottingham, said: “We are so pleased and flattered that Zullo & Holland has decided to raise funds for Maggie’s Nottingham at the Zullo May Ball. It sounds like it will be an amazing night and a great occasion for everyone to get together and have a party.
At Maggie’s we provide free practical, emotional and psychological support for anyone affected by any type of cancer and the proceeds raised from the ball will help people in the area live through and beyond cancer.”
Tickets for the Maggie’s May Ball hosted by Zullo & Holland on 17 May cost £60, available at the salon, 26 Upper Parliament St, NG1 2AD or by calling 0115 950 4635.
