Don’t be surprised to hear excited giggles emanating from Zullo & Holland this month – everyone is on tenterhooks after the salon made it to the finals of not just one major award but three.
Hair Magazine, the top grooming glossy, has singled out Z&H creative director Angelo Vallillo for Salon Stylist of the Year and picked one of his hair designs for its I Want That Hair award. The team has also been nominated for inaugural English Hair and Beauty, which is voted for by clients.
The Hair Magazine Awards will be announced in London on 27 February, while the winners in the English Hair and Beauty Awards will be unveiled in Manchester in May. Zullo & Holland is no stranger to awards. Last year, the team made it to the finals of six awards. But this is the first time they’ve made it ‘almost to the podium’ in awards picked by consumers and clients.
‘These are a huge deal for us,’ said owner Romano Zullo. ‘While being shortlisted for any award is an honour, we’ve got through to the finals of these awards because our clients have nominated and voted for us. That’s amazing. We are thrilled.’
Zullo & Holland always encourages its team to compete at a national and international level. Last year, Angelo became the only Nottingham hairdresser to be shortlisted for the Oscars of the hair world, the British Hairdresser of the Year, while the salon’s newest stylist, Charlotte Wiley, made it to the last 25 in the Clothes Show Young Hairdresser of the Year competition in December. Earlier in 2011, Sue Comery was named Midlands Colourist of the Year by Wella in its Trend Vision Awards, while Ben Kristian was picked as Midlands Young Talent at the same awards.
